John, Clean the grease/dirt off of the sides of the polychain cogs, then get a black magic marker and put a dot on the side of the gear. Then, using that dot as a reference point, count the #of teeth on both the big and small cogs. Get a calculator and do the division. Big # divided by the small one. That is how you get the real ratio. Let us know what you come up with. I had the polychain cogs and belt on my car and changed it to chain drive. There is no way to come up with a 5 to 1 ratio on these cars with polychain and have the belt stay on the cogs. A 30 tooth small would require a 150 tooth large cog. I have never even heard of a 150 being made. The biggest I have seen is a 120, which would require a 24 tooth small cog. The contace patch on a 24 would be so small, the teeth would likely strip off the belt. Count them up and let us know what you have now. Hope this helps. Bill Schmidt 88 RD Kawi (with chain drive)

Top speed on one of their faster tracks would see me keeping up with the small hp cars. I ran mine at a quarter mile track last year and in a rather poor state I got 87 mph out of it. If you're able to hang even close to an f Mazda, I'd guess that I might be alright with the 5:1 ratio. I get up to 87 mph really fast with these gears. 8-) Heck I can spin tires at about 30 mph still. It's sick! 8-) JV ________________________________ FormulaCar Magazine - A Proud Supporter of Formula 500 The Official Publication of Junior Formula Car Racing Subscribe Today! www.formulacarmag.com or 519-624-2003 _________________________________ _______________________________________________ F500 mailing list - [email protected] To unsubscribe or change options please visit: http://f500.org/mailman/listinfo/f500 *** Please, DO NOT send unsubscribe requests to the mailing list! ***
