If the plugs are dry--you need to work on fuel delivery.

If they are wet-wet
it will pretty much never start. Take the plugs out, crank a few hundred
times and start with fresh plugs. A little shot of carb cleaner does a good
job of drying them quickly--let it dry though. You will need to let the case
dry out. I have been in this unfortunate scenario before.

You are getting
spark.
That is good. It is tough to be too far off on timing with this
engine.

These are the moments that electric start becomes oh-so-good.

Re-firing rebuilt 494

Guys,

Thanks for the ideas.

The plugs are new, I'll
have to check if they are wet
when I try it tomorrow. I have attempted starts
with
choke on and off. Removed the air filters for a few
attempts to eliminate
clogged filters as the culprit
(in case I got carried away with the K&N oil).
I let a
pro do the rebuild (smart move-the reinstall and
refire is challenging
enough).

Tomorrow's to do list: set idle speed to factory spec.
Attempt
start. Check for wet plugs. Squirt pre-mix
past carb slides. Attempt start.
Thanks again,
Kenneth
