A word of caution about starting the engine with the throttle open! Make sure you have a clutch with springs and weights attached to the engine, if not you could zing it to oblivion!

If so, it's not going to immediately go zooooom - booooom! It'll flutter around as it clears itself out. You can also pull the throttle cables out of the top of the carb a bit. The cable can be pulled out of the brass adjuster and propped on the edge of the adjuster to give you some throttle. Then if / when it fires, you can just bump the cable and it'll drop right back in. Can be a pain without an electric starter or a helper. Been there...
