Gussets are not legal per se.  They might be legal if analyzed by a PE &
meet the engineering criteria.  Forward faceing roll bar braces MUST be a
minimum of 1" diameter X .083" wall DOM steel tube.  ANYTHING ELSE must mee
the alternative design specifications & be signed off by a PE as meeting the
alternative design criteria.

Again I suggest that you get in touch with John Bauer of the SCCA technical
office.

That clears up a lot. The one legal design alternative involves the gussets,
correct?
