I use both depending on whether I am soloing or roading. The round full wheel
is needed for very slow tight corners and I need that grip in between. Or at
least I think I do...I could probably do without it, but I am used to it. I
have more of a butterfly shaped wheel for road racing. I felt I have a more
relaxed grip. That is quite a transition. Somehow it doesn't bother me to
switch at all. For road racing, I don't have a reason to change grip and I
can rotate from lock to lock without letting go.

Subject: [F500] steering wheel - open vs
closed top

After 11 years of racing, I am considering changing from a
traditional steering wheel to one with an open top. I'm a little concerned
about the transition - I don't want to be on the track, or even worse in an
emergency situation, and end up grabbing air instead of the top of the wheel.
I'm sure I would get used to it, but one mistake at the wrong time could cost
lots of $$$ or worse.

So - I'd like to ask for feedback from those of
you that have raced with a traditional wheel and switched to the open top.
Was it difficult? Did you experience anything like I described above. Has
anyone tried to make the change and couldn't get used to it or switched back
for some other reason.

  Thanks as always!

  Cory
