I had the same apprehension, Cory;

It never happened. Don't know if it was the will to survive or what but, I never "grabbed for air." The only time I had concerns was in the paddock. Other than that, my steering was quick enough to obviate the need for that extra third of a wheel.

Subject: [F500] steering wheel - open vs closed top

After 11 years of racing, I am considering changing from a traditional steering wheel to one with an open top. I'm a little concerned about the transition - I don't want to be on the track, or even worse in an emergency situation, and end up grabbing air instead of the top of the wheel. I'm sure I would get used to it, but one mistake at the wrong time could cost lots of $$$ or worse.

So - I'd like to ask for feedback from those of you that have raced with a traditional wheel and switched to the open top. Was it difficult? Did you experience anything like I described above. Has anyone tried to make the change and couldn't get used to it or switched back for some other reason.

 Thanks as always!

 Cory
