I tow with a 96 Isuzu Rodeo V6 , 5speed, part time 4wd. I have never
used the 4wd for towing and only use it about 1 time a year in the
winter. We dont get much snow in KC. I have gotten a high of 22mpg on a
flat grade, no wind to speak of, cruise control on, no trailer being
towed. And have gotten a low of 13 towing the Devil car on a windy day.
I am getting about 17mpg right now, with the warmer weather. My next tow
vehicle will be a smaller one. I towed my car to solo nats last year
with a borrowed Subaru Forester automatic and got 23mpg on the highway.
Not bad! Since my car and trailor are about 1100 to 1200 lbs, my Rodeo
is way overkill for towing ability. I will consider a Forester, Rav4 ,
CRV, Vitara, Sportage for my next rig. But of course, none of these
would work if you tow an enclosed trailor.

I used to tow with a Jeep Cherokee with 4WD.....during the 9 years and
220,000 miles I put on it I had to actually use the 4WD 4 times....twice
in
the snow in Maryland and 2 times in the paddock at Mid or is that
Mud-Ohio
during the deluges of the 2000 Runoffs.
