I used to tow my 16x6 Wells double axle box trailer with my 4WD S-10. It was a handful but, at 14mpg, I just watched the fluids and eventually got there. You will never, ever, ever, ever, need 4WD...........

UNLESS

you get stuck in some rain-soaked paddock area.

I now tow the same trailer with my recent purchase: 2002 Silverado 1500HD. I need my mirrors to remind me there's a trailer back there. I no longer have 4WD but, I'm REAL careful where I put that trailer.

If I lived further North, I'd probably have held out for 4WD but, down here in Texas, it is unnecessary unless one just LIKES to drive in the dirt.

Subject: [F500] tow vehicle question

I'm looking at buying a new pickup for towing my racing trailer. The deals being offered make buying a truck from dealer stock instead of ordering very appealing. So all the local dealers only stock 4 wheel drive pickups.

I've never considered towing with a 4 wheel drive. Are there any significant advantages or disadvantages to consider?
Thanks
Herb Noble
