Hi,
What production line. We build one off wheel sets. Our average order size is
two sets. We spend about two hours on every build trying to maximize the
layout for maximum strength and light weight. I wish I had a big assembly
line. Usually customers will order a set or two then do some testing and
decide that they want to change it and they order again with different
specs. Not to many builds do we do twice. So, yes it is the same. I have
faster equipment yes, but it costs alot and I have to reflect that in my
price. I'll bet you dollar to donuts that you would charge more if you where
in my shoes. Doesn't really matter, I sleep well at night because I feel we
offer a good mix of quality and price. If you don't like it, you don't have
to buy any.

That's retail one offs, not production. I would hope that if the material
was bought in quantity and not from McMaster, and the plate were hogged
out on a CNC, it would at least the 1/2 time... Not a good comparison to
your production line.

Hi ,
Well I'm not so sure about that. The raw cost of his materials is 139.24
plus labor. He figures that it takes at least an hour. 60 per hour is a
standard rate. That puts it at 199.24. Plus the fasteners, build time,
polishing of the center etc. Of course he doesn't have to box or package
it
and he doesn't have a shop overhead either. In the past we retailed these
wheels for about 120 to 140. Barely sold any. When we factor in the cost
to
set up equipment to make a couple of parts the cost goes way up. If we
were
selling even five sets a month the cost would come way down. But we don't.
Even with all things considered our current pricing is only about 50
dollars
more than his costs. Our f500 wheels usually came in at about 4 lbs or so.
I'm curious to see the weight. The build looks well thought out and I'm
sure
will work out fine for the application. Button head bolts are not really
meant for that type of application and wouldn't suggest you use them. Best
of luck.

Dave,
What was the total cost of the parts and what was your total time to
produce. The most important question of course, is what do they weigh?

That's a nice piece of work, dude.
You need to do some pricing before folks overwhelm you with requests.

A few weeks ago I asked about wheels and mentioned doing my own centers.
Well I had some time this weekend to rough them out.
A few people wondered how it was going so here you go.
Nothing special and they still need debur and polishing.
