It was pretty boundary-breaking, that's for sure. :-) It's one of the reasons I still like Castaneda's early works. I know enough about the man to know how much of his work was fiction, but it doesn't matter to me because he got one thing right -- the reaction of one's body and mind to seeing something like this. You may tell yourself that you'd be comfortable with it, but that's just stuff we tell ourselves, not having encountered it. When you do, part of you -- the part that still wants to believe that the word "reality" has a meaning -- wants to run screaming from the room and forget that you ever saw what you just saw.
