The only media on my phone that I'd want to see on my computer are pictures and
video taken with the phone's camera, and those are transferred with Dropbox.

On the rare occasions that I sit in the living room to watch TV, I use an iPad
as a program guide and remote control for the DirecTV receiver. Most of the
time, I watch DirecTV on an iPad sitting on my desk or suspended over my head
in bed using a SpiderArm:

I can stream media to the iPads and my Macbook from my main PC and the NAS with
Serve To Me and Stream To Me:

If I want, I can use the big TV as an external monitor on the Macbook, so
anything streaming to or playing on the Macbook can play on the TV. But, most
of the time I just watch stuff on my PC because the tower is fanless and
completely silent, the two monitors are 30" and 2560 x 1600 resolution, and the
2.1 Paradigm speaker system kicks ass.
