Allowing/supporting an anti-american terrorist group "free reign" (where? Syria? Lebanon?) doesn't imply that Syria is a client state of Iran. It means they are cooperating against a mutually perceived enemy. Also, after the invasion of Iraq, Syria started supporting fundamentalist groups inside its own country in order to create a radically anti-american civil defense grass roots base. The rank-and-file moderate citizens of Syria are not exactly thrilled with their government's actions around the world and in-country and hardly blinked in protest at the invasion of Iraq. This prompted the government to encourage fundamentalist groups within the country that had heretofore been persecuted. An ironic side-effect of the invasion. ------------------------ Yahoo!
