Allegedly, someone who is fully enlightened remembers all their past lives. My own theory is that the theory that explains unstressing found during meditation due to past experience doesn't explain stresses due to genetic disorders. However, we need to project some reason for these unstressing/normalization events that take place due to genetic disorders and call them past experiences, and claim that since they're not from THIS life, they must be from a previous one. Of course, one can claim that part of the selection process for finding a suitable new body for reincarnating into is finding one with the appropriate genetic makeup, so the explanaton doesn't necessarily eliminate the existence of past lives...
