The "free" game is of questionable legality - it was released as a free
download by Dynamix for a while back in the day, but putting it up for
others to download wasn't covered in that. Just because it's out there
doesn't mean it's a legal, legit copy (heck, doesn't mean somebody didn't
stick some spyware in the installer). The version from gog should be a
legal copy - of both Krondor games, not just the first that you may be able
to find elsewhere.

And gog wraps the virtual machine software for you and guarantees it will
work or your money back. Both are a nice plus.

I think Steam used to have the Krondor games for a while, but I'm not
certain about that - they're not there now, but if they were, that's
another reputable source.
