I've thought that way before too.  If I know an innocent creature needs help, and I don't at least try, their little faces haunt me.  For me, it's always better to at least try.  I don't know what the lesson is, sometimes we can learn from our mistakes, and be more prepared the next time.  Other times I think it's just a lesson in how little control we actually have.  Keep caring Cherie, keep trying to help whenever you can.  You are a wonderful example of loving concern to your son.  He's very fortunate to have you for his mother.

God Bless,
Nina

Thank you Nina, Thank all of you guys I really needed to hear all this right now, this really put me in the dumps. I know it is a part of life especially when we do rescue, I just am questioning if I should have rescued.
Cherie,
Please don't be so hard on yourself. You did what you thought best,
your motives are generous and pure. How could anyone know how long that
mouse had? The very fact that you were able to catch him in order to
try to help him makes me suspicious about his health. How terrible for
you to find that poor little guy dead. I hate to say this, but it's all
part of rescue, rescue of any kind. The ones that come to us are
usually not healthy to begin with, we can only do what we can do. I'm
sorry sweetheart, I know it hurts. It's because we care that it hurts,
I guess the two go hand in hand.
Much love,
Nina
