To do it:
First I take my darning MUSHROOM - its like a darning egg with convenient
handle - done years ago by a friend who did turned wood articles.
Place the egg, mushroom, or your fist under the hole.
You then "connect" two sides of the hole with stitches running across it
(keeping the width of the hole as big as it was before) like "warp threads".
Now take your mending thread around to the other two sides and with over and
under movements - reweave a patch the size of the hole to be filled.
Mending thread can be found on little cards at most yarn shops - ore can use
something you have at home already
