I just got home from an all day class on needle felting with Ayala Talpai.
She said a student in one of her classes suggested using the felting
needles to repair holes in wool socks instead of darning them. She didn't
discuss how to do it. But one way might be to knit a patch for the
hole/thin area, then needle felt it to the sock. Of course, that requires
familiarity with using felting needles.
