Hi, Robin :) When I say I wear my handspun socks every day, that's what I mean, and it's one pair of socks :) I gave away the other pair of short handspun socks to my sister, but wore those daily before then as well. Both pairs, though spun with a 15 degree twist angle, wore very well--neither have needed repairs.
The one pair I wear less often actually gets harder use--they're knee socks I wear as chore socks when the weather is really cold. I didn't put as much mohair in those (probably about 5% by weight) and I finally had a thin spot under one of the heels late last winter--after 5 years of wearing maybe once a week during the winter. I use BL, Romney, and crosses, with 15% mohair by weight (kid or adult, doesn't seem to matter). The pairs of Shetland socks I made without mohair wore out quickly though the one pair was worn by my husband inside his rubber barn boots, which have no padding, and I find is not a fair test of sock wearing :) If you're using Merino and other finewool breeds, I can see adding more twist--but being a lazy spinner, I'd rather stick with harder wearing wools and put less twist in :) Don't you love handspun socks, regardless of how they're made? I get such a thrill when I put mine on :) Holly To stop mail temporarily mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: set nomail To restore send: set mail
