I raised Targhee's and Targhee-Rambouillete cross for 15 yrs. The micron count on them ran from 19 to 28. The lamb fleeces being finer, sometimes a 17 or 18. Most of the adults were in the 22 to 25 range. Gave me a variety of fleeces to work from for different projects. Most went into the roving I used for retail. Kept last years clip for myself. Injured my back and couldn't take care of the flock during lambing. Going to have yarn made and weave some throws. When I have some extra time!!!
I would choose a breed that would provide me the most fleece for the majority of projects that I would want to make. If I need a coarser or finer fleece then I would buy one for that particular project. It's much cheaper in the long run.
