I have found that Vaseline is not the greatest lubricant for spinning
wheels. It is sticky and messy. When it combines with spinning fibers and
dust or dirt it can become abrasive like sandpaper. I had a Louet spinning
wheel and the recommended lubricant (Vaseline) really did more damage than
good.

I now use a silicon based lubricant on the metal shaft of my spinning wheel
where the plastic bobbin flanges make contact with it and a good oil on
the metal to metal contact oiling points. I get the silicon-Teflon type
lubricant at Radio Shack.
