Kimberly,
I have news for you. If one wishes to raise sheep profitably, the only way is with as little additional intervention possible, using available forage. Dips are used only where needed and not as often as one is led to believe. In 10 years of keeping sheep, we used only dewormers tailored to the results of stool samples and medications when needed for digestion problems or mastitis. Any other "intervention" would have simply been too expensive. I've been through the European wave of this organic fever (30+ years ago), and it is nice not to use chemicals that are unnecessary, but the total abstinence and back to "pre-industrial" thing really only flourishes when the farmers around those people use commercial treatments. I've never heard that there was any truly measurable effect on the users of organic - other than their sense of well being. Believe me, sheep are considered "small livestock" and at the lower end of the agricultural pecking order (have been since the Old Testament) and probably receive far fewer nasties than other livestock as a result.
