Holly,
My point was simple - to raise sheep profitably, you have to keep things
simple - not a lot of expensive "intervention" in the form of chemicals,
fancy food and the like. That puts most competent shepherds in the category
of nearly organic farming, no matter what their official designation.
When we had our sheep, we were also often confonted by urban folks who had
strange misconceptions about practices we might be using - and not only we
as small producers didn't do them, the shepherds with 500 and more ewes
didn't either. In fact, the larger the flock, the simpler and more "natural"
the method.
