I'm sure this topic has come up before, so I apologize if it is old hat... My very mixed breed dog is getting old and his fur did something completely different this past year. It is a very light color on top and very dark close to the skin. As I was brushing him, I thought the combination of the two colors looked beautiful. Plus, the fur was very soft (and there is a bunch of it). I started saving it thinking maybe I could spin it. However, it needs to be cleaned really well. I have never cleaned fiber before, so I was hoping to get some suggestions. One woman told me that you can never really get the dog smell out of dog hair. But I still want to give it a try. Also, I guess it would then need to be carded or combed somehow. Has anyone done this with dog hair? Can you give me pointers or talk me out of it? Should I avoid using my wheel (will it stink it up?) I could use a drop spindle instead.

Thanks,
Jennifer (and Teva the dog)
