All I can say is "different strokes", Bobbie!  In my spinning classes,
nobody yet has liked using the full-sized Ashford student hand cards.
Personally I find the paddle handle too wide for my hands to grip. Unless
the design has changed recently. Maybe if you've modified them by sanding
then you've solved the problem. I do agree that some round handles are
harder to control. They are usually the much thinner ones or ones that have
a slick finish.

After 30-plus years I've never had any carder's handle come loose. I've used
some very old cards (belonging to my guild) with some pretty grotty carding
cloth but the handles were still fully intact. I would say that's not
usually an issue unless they are mistreated in some way or screws are
allowed to loosen and wear.
