I have been digging in the garden, trying to weave up some bath towels in spare time and buying some sock yarn in solid colours for my Mum to dye in her microwave. She is nutty about the dyeing, but I have many pairs of lovely socks. She is now going to knit me a short sleeve summer sweater in a merino/cotton sock yarn blend. It will be interesting to see how it comes out in the patterning.

I like the heating of wool idea as I found it a pain to heat the combs while combing. The extra warm water on the hot combs would help with the heavier wools. On finer wools, I found that the oil and water just made it limp and difficult to comb. I have not combed any wool for awhile, but I have some wonderful long white fleece from a local farmer. I think it is a cotswoldX or Columbia or Coopworth. I think she changes her ram so I never know quite what she has. Long fibre, lustrous and not too coarse. Spins like a dream once processed. (That takes the longest).

My neigbours and I have been having dye sessions and I have some roving ready to make into a traditionally felted tea cozy. I have been thinking about how to do it and once I start, I know it will go fairly fast. We have bought a gazebo for the deck which I can see as a help in laying out wool. I may be able to lower the walls and lay out the fleece. I have discovered that any teeny, teeny breeze is a problem.

I hope to get some time for putting my hands into some wool. That is a true wonderful, healing sensation.
