FW{Little}IW I have hundreds of applications and tens of thousands of
documents spread over seven hard disks and more than a hundred
gigabytes of storage. I find Apple's implicit assertion that all
applications should share a folder on the boot hard disk alongside a
folder which contains all "documents" anathema. I will continue to
put _my_ documents and _my_ applications wherever I want them on _my_
computer. If I come across companies whose programs get their
knickers in a twist because their folders aren't in the "right" place
they will get one polite email from me. If the behavior continues
they will loose my business and hear my strenuous condemnation to all
who will listen.

Sorry, but I really had to get that off my chest.

One of the things that has made the Mac so versatile is that you can
install a program anywhere and then, so long as you move the whole
folder, you can move the application anywhere you want and it *just*
*works.* Another is that you can restore a whole system from backup
without the hassle of original-disk installers (and the download of a
bazillion updaters). Only the ConeHeads from NeXt would try to screw
that up....
