Oops. I didn't write what I really meant to say. I don't consider it a design flaw that syllables shift from one note to another, across system boundaries, but that it can happen that the syllable assigned to the last note of a particular staff in a score shifts to the first note of the beginning of whatever the next staff is in the score when the syllable count is changed, and that because of the guard system, shift lyrics cannot be used to undo this.
