Indeed, but the "Fluff level" is pretty extreme this time. Lanch menu?
Performance Assessment? Now isn't the latter starting to blur with
SmartMusic? I like that you can save Finale pieces to SmartMusic,
but.....having Finale now acts a scaled down SmartMusic thing is getting
a little too fluffy for me...

I posted on this topic earlier, and this info from MM about 2005 seems to support my
hypothesis.

This is what we can expect from now on: 10-20% notation; the rest will be fluff.

The Smart Music thing is to be expected, since MM seems to be hanging its hat on
revenue from it and educational purchases of Finale. The "serious notation" segment is
small.

Maybe since there is "Finale Guitar" (IMHO a grossly misnamed product), "Finale Lite"
in 3 flavors, "Note Pad," "NotePad with MIDI," etc., maybe there could be "Finale
Notation" with no rhyming dictionary or "Brookmeyer in a Box," etc.

Real notation improvements need to be parceled out across updates so that there is
only enough in each year to make it worth the yearly subscription fee--which is what
that is.

In my personal case, it seems as if I'll skip the odd-year releases and bite for the
evens.

Just some thoughts...Jim W.
