But FinaleScript is choking on certain filenames.

My guess is that it's having trouble with the periods ("dots"?) in the filenames. All the filenames you mention have periods in them, and since they're not marking off the traditional file extension it may be causing the choke.

Uh, okay, so what now? Any ideas? Almost all of my filenames have periods in them, because I always use the abbreviated staff name when I extract parts. So even those files that end in ".mus" will have additional periods before that -- e.g., "My Fantastic Arrangement #1—B.Cl..mus"

Does every hyphen change into "Å\", or only on certain files?

It's not a hyphen, it's an em dash. But so far, yes. And I use the em dash in almost all my filenames, too.

If it's
all of them, it might have translated from OS9 as a non-standard font
character. The "hardness" or "softness" of the hyphen, as translated,
might have been an issue.

So, uh, any ideas how to fix that? Can FinaleScript batch search and replace within filenames? I don't mind replacing all the em dashes with hyphens or whatever, so long as the process can be automated. I also don't mind having all the periods (except the one in ".mus" replaced by spaces, if there's an easy way to do that.

The text search and replace should be no problem, as long as you get
this filename issue sorted out. Remember that writing FinaleScripts is
*programming* - there will be bugs to work out of any script you write
before you can say that it's usable.

Well, okay, but I'm not a programmer and I have no idea how to even begin troubleshooting FinaleScript, so when it doesn't "just work," I'm stuck. Any assistance and/or pointers to existing tutorials or other resources would be most welcome.
