So long as you elect not to use GPO, these will be interpreted by HP so
long as you have "Incorporate Data" selected in the HP prefs.
(This was in Fin2005 as well, which you have, right? Have you looked at
Human Playback in Fin2005? And what playback device are you currently
using?)
There is no plugin system to automatically set up old docs with
Finale GPO. But the manual setup process actually doesn't take very
long.
It would for several hundred scores that might benefit from being run
through the new system.
As you say later, your term "new playback system" is confusing. There
is no "new system." Human Playback is an _old_ system (since Fin2004)
which has been improved in many ways in Finale 2006 -- including some
ways that are specifically beneficial to those who use GPO, but *in no
way* interfere with your ability to use other playback options.
But I'd like to hear them to decide. A plugin or
script that could be run on a whole directory of copied scores would be
great -- or even the stage where it imports scores from earlier Finale
versions asking 'produce score for GPO/Kontakt system?'
Again, I think you're a little confused here. The only additional
thing that is done automatically by the Setup Wizard is the
configuration of your AU/VST setup.
It would be very difficult for a plugin to configure the AU/VST setup
automatically. Not impossible, but there are a lot of choices that
need to be made that might be difficult for a plugin to infer (e.g.,
solo strings or massed strings? Notation set or not?). Still, a plugin
that got 90% of the choices right would be quite useful. [Hell, even a
plugin that offered no automation but merely a better UI than the
Kontakt player for configuring your setup would be quite useful.]
Someone said HP had to be turned off for GPO. I'll skip that question
for now.
I don't believe anybody here said that. If they did, they were on
crack. GPO *only* works correctly with Human Playback turned ON. I've
said that, what, twenty times today? Are you reading any of my posts?
I think I need a flow chart. These are the options?
Notation -> HP -> GPO/Kontakt (no other VSTi) -> Audio
Notation -> HP -> GPO/Kontakt -> End (no massaged Midi file option).
What? No. Of course there is. That's what the Apply Human Playback
plugin does.
Notation -> HP -> other mix'n'match VSTi or Soundfont combo -> Audio
Notation -> HP Plugin -> Massaged Midi file available for save
Notation -> User-defined expression Midi file available for save
You missed a big one (or maybe that's what you meant by your third
option):
Notation -> HP -> any NI-compatible AU/VST instruments -> Audio
See here:
http://www.finalemusic.com/finale/features/new/nativeinstruments.aspx
Midi -> Notation -> ??? How is Midi controller data used/interpreted
by HP
and/or GPO/Kontakt, or is it ignored?
Don't you have Finale 2005? Look at the HP Options yourself. Top left
corner. It's all the same in Finale 2006.
To optimize a score for both methods (i.e., to take full advantage
of the different methods without compromising either one, and being
able to
save material for use in an external studio suite), two different
scores
must be created.
I thought this was true, but now I don't think so. You might have to
do some fiddling with certain expressions which are defined for
playback.
Okay. I'm still on hold with this one, then.
Fercrissakes.
Listen -- I go back and forth between the Finale SoundFont and GPO all
the time. I'm telling you, YOU DON'T NEED TWO COPIES OF THE SCORE.
Anybody who is claiming this is MISTAKEN.
If you don't want to believe me, fine, but just say so, all right? I'm
tired of repeating myself.
6. The new system no longer outputs Midi and patch switches for use
in an
external studio suite such as Sonar, except for the old Midi save-as
and
the superseded Human Playback plugin save-as.
Not true. You can still use Fin2006 exactly as before with external
suites. (I don't do this, but that's my understanding.)
Still on hold here, too, depending on the ultimate answer to #4 in
Finale's
marketing regime
I have no idea what you mean here, but your original sentence ("6. The
new system... ") is still completely wrong.
7. The new playback system is incomplete as shipped, missing many
standard
instruments, but will not load existing sample sets (such as Yamaha
or
Soundfont) and does not come with a conversion utility or sample
builder.
The only option for expanding the new playback system is to purchase
more
software.
Finale GPO is only a playback *option*, not a new system.
But the development went into this feature, didn't it? The whole
integration? So it will end up being the default for most folks. Be
that as
it may....
Look, you can still load any Sound Font you want. You can still play
back through any MIDI device (external or software-based) you want.
You can even load any NI-compatible sample set you want directly into
Finale's AU/VST setup. So again, you're just flat-out wrong.
It contains
most instruments in the standard orchestra (Garritan Personal
*Orchestra*) but does not include saxes and other band and jazz
instruments.
...*excluding* an option to load my own samples or convert them from
other
formats (yes?)
No. The full version of Kontakt is supported via AU/VST, so you can
load your own samples there. Or you can output to MIDI, and trigger
your samples from any MIDI-compatible VST host application.
or use other players *simultaneously* (yes?)
No. You just can't use MIDI and AU/VST simultaneously.
Seriously, Dennis, I have no idea where you are getting all of this
stuff from.
