Well, it has happened again, and maybe this has to do with conversion from older documents. Now neither the chord tool, nor the tuplet tool will work. (This is in an up-converted file.) And opening a new 2006 default document exhibits the same behavior. So, I can again delete and rebuild the preferences, but how can I prevent this from happening every time I go to work on an old file?

I haven't seen this, either. Sounds like something is awry with your Fin2006 installation.

Chuck, you may want to consider deleting all Fin2006-related stuff on your computer (including prefs and the MakeMusic folder in Application Support), repairing your preferences with Cocktail, reinstalling Fin2006 (run the pre-installer first!) and then repairing your preferences again.

Don't know if it will help, but it couldn't hurt. I can't duplicate that behavior on my computer, so a clean reinstall of Finale is really the only thing I can suggest.

Maybe also run a Data Check on files after you import them to Fin2006.
