I use Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac. In this version, at least, I can put *any* command in *any* menu. I can even create a new menu and call it what I like. Of course this lets me do really stupid things: just for fun I tried adding "Quit", "Undo" and "Bold" to the View menu: it works! If I wanted I could make a complete mess of the menus, removing them or swapping them around at will. But I do find this feature useful: I added some macros to the tools menu, for instance.

I would be happy to see this feature added to Finale, but it isn't a cure for all ills. First and foremost, MakeMusic needs to look at all the features that *nobody* will find without studying the manual or getting a tip from someone in the know. How do people find out how to move just one staff up or down, for instance?

Another idea would be to allow a user to customize their own interface. You can pick what items you want in the menu, and what menu they are in,
etc.

You can't do this. This will cause a huge pain in technical support.

I think like Microsoft Office does this?

Nope. What many apps offer is customizing tool bars, not menu, and M
$Office products has "Show Only Frequently Used Menu Items (or something
like that)" option so user won't see all the available menu items, but
they will reveal themselves if you let it stay, say if you are looking
for something in the menu so you are holding the menu then all the
sudden menu expands. To me, this is most annoying and stoopid feature
so I disable this feature around even on my clients' machines!
