Yes, I suppose that happens but, to answer the following question, no.
Can't one have empty linked parts in a template? And expect them to reflect what's entered in the score?
I too thought that it made sense to start with a template that had parts already created, thinking that the process of creating the parts would be confusing, and I'd save time and trouble that way, only to encounter this problem. It is handily solved by creating parts as the last step, and it wasn't all that confusing to learn or hard to do. So, you're welcome use my experience as an example and save frustration by doing things the way MM has designed them to be done. It works just fine that way.
