This is exactly the problem I had - with two scores I created from a template that had parts already created, that is that mm rests and staff styles did not show correctly in these parts. MM Mac support confirmed this and said the solution (simple enough to accomplish) was to recreate the parts. It only takes a moment, and the information is then correct in the parts. I'm perfectly happy that you and others have not encountered this behavior, but I certainly have, and MM has acknowledged it. (Perhaps the fact that this appears in my work is because I use slash notation and rhythmic notation fairly extensively in rhythm section parts. If you don't use these staff styles, that may explain why you haven't seen this problem.)

It is true that you will have to update the mm rests, but that doesn't need the parts to be recreated.

Dear Johannes,

My respect for you and gratitude for your generous help - given to many of us over years of participation on this list, and for the way you have shared your meticulously worked out settings for ties etc., makes me want to take the time to make sure that you understand that this particular issue is not simply one of those that arises from my overlooking something obvious. (There have been a few of those!)

I am not entirely sure how this impacts staff styles. As far as I can see, staff styles are linked when they are created in the score, and then they are independent in the parts.

My experience with this, when using already existing parts in a template, is that staff styles come out in the parts "view" applied erratically - not showing up where they are entered in the score (and visible in the score view), and showing up in other places (usually in the last few measures of a part) where they are not applied in the score. You can correct these things in the parts because, as you say, they are then unlinked. That was my first response - that I had made a mistake and done something incorrectly, or that it was a really big bug, so I repaired each instance in the offending part. Then I remembered that support had acknowledged this when I first asked them about it (they actually had one of my scores) and had told me to recreate the parts. That procedure takes only a minute or so, and cures the problems of missing rests and wandering staff styles globally. Another communication with the support people re-confirmed the existence of this behavior and the method of correcting it.

I acknowledge that my experience may not be universal. I certainly hope no one else encounters it, but I assure you, I have paid attention to what's going on with this situation. If my experience helps someone else avoid the frustration that this caused me, that will give me some satisfaction.

Chuck
