This is exactly the problem I had - with two scores I created from a template that had parts already created, that is that mm rests and staff styles did not show correctly in these parts. MM Mac support confirmed this and said the solution (simple enough to accomplish) was to recreate the parts. It only takes a moment, and the information is then correct in the parts. I'm perfectly happy that you and others have not encountered this behavior, but I certainly have, and MM has acknowledged it. (Perhaps the fact that this appears in my work is because I use slash notation and rhythmic notation fairly extensively in rhythm section parts. If you don't use these staff styles, that may explain why you haven't seen this problem.)

If this was true (which it isn't) the whole point of linked parts would be lost.

You certainly don't have to recreate parts.
