Greetings all!

My question is a very direct one:

Finale is claiming that through Kontakt 2 the rendition of what is
written onto its staves is very "realistic". In other words,
a trumpet will sound like a trumpet, a violin like a violin and a soprano
or baritone voice like a real soprano or baritone.
IS THIS THE CASE?

Yes that is the case.

Do they sound like your ideal image of a trumpet, violin, etc? Only you can answer that.

Do they sound mechanical at all? Yes.

Are they cheaper than hiring musicians to be on standby for that perfect rendition of a newly created masterpiece? Definitely.

There is no single, best-for-all, idea of what a trumpet should sound like -- Maurice Andre? Louis Armstrong? Jon Faddis? Miles Davis? Wynton Marsalis? Adolph Herseth?

Same goes for violin -- which is the ideal tone -- Heifetz or Charlie Daniels or Stephane Grapelli or Joe Venuti or Ray Nance or Itzak Perlman?

Some will love these sounds, some will hate them, some will use them for what they are to most users -- a reasonable representation of the instruments they purport to represent.

Kontakt 2 does claim to do a better job, when linked with Finale Human Playback, at making the sounds seem more "human" but again that is open for debate as to what that really implies and what ideal it is to be compared against.

Find a finale2007 user in your area and pay him/her for an hour of time to show you what it sounds like.
