my mind really beings to wander about 20 minutes
into doing this. I typically check files at
least four times, and I still find mistakes.
you might need to approach it differently to
maintain the concentration needed...
- turn off the computer, take a break and eat
something between printing the proofing version
and sitting down to proof;
- use a different table or space for working and
proofing (i sometimes go to a café or restaurant);
- don't enter the corrections as soon as you spot
them, note them on the paper printout, finish the
proofing before even turning on the computer
again;
- proof in "layers": notes, articulations and dynamics, or something like that.
on the score list, someone mentioned that one
well-known publisher (don't ask, i don't
remember) does 8 rounds of proofing.
also make sure the composer proofs as well; i
have never "finished" a job without insisting on
a thorough proofing by the composer.
