I learned (once again) that with Finale you often have to make a
little experiment to test what you think you know about the program.
Articulation playback, with or without Human Playback, is one of
those things.
Jari opened my eyes to the fact that all three playback options for
articulations can work together. Change attack, change duration, and
change velocity can all have settings that affect things. The GUI is
misleading and so for almost 2 decades (Arggghhhh!) I was under the
impression that you could pick only one of the playback options.
So in short, an accent with a staccato character CAN be louder and
shorter at the same time.
The second thing I confirmed with my little test was that HP only
incorporates the proper articulation playback if they are defined
that way. If you select None for the articulation playback, HP
doesn't change it.

It is too bad that for playback of both modifications (making the
velocity higher and the duration shorter), you still need to put in
separate articulations, rather than the combined one.

Wrong.
I know, the UI sucks but articulations actually supports multiple
playback options.
In another email Chuck Israels asked:
So when you mark something with a staccato accent, which do you get in HP?
