Just use the dropdown and enter the values, they'll stick even when
they are invisible.
FWIW, recent versions of Finale has "correct" (=multiple) settings in
the default files for things like accent+staccato.

I have been kludging this for YEARS!
I think I'll send a little note (number 847 of... well I don't know when
it will end) to gently suggest that this might not be the best interface
design...
Don't -- they'll just add your note to the huge and growing number of
notes they print out and stamp with a huge GOTCHA! stamp. Then at the
annual Christmas party they simply read them out and cackle outrageously
as each additional message gets angrier and angrier.
I can hear them now: "Oh, stop it, man, you're killing me. I just
spilled my thirteenth beer! Don't read any more messages from
Christopher Smith -- man, that guy knows how to write one scathing tech
support note, I'm telling you. And he thinks we care and actually pass
these things along! Oh, god, my side hurts I've been laughing so hard!
Wait'll we read these at the annual Tech Support convention -- we're
SURE to win the gold medal this time!"
I gave up with those sorts of complaints -- they know their interface
sucks. And if they don't know it, they sure aren't going to realize it
when you or I complain about it.
