I don't know about Mac, but Linux distributions now provide a read/write driver for NTFS. I've got it running on a client's home Ubuntu server that has a USB drive attached to it that is NTFS and is shared for all the computers on the network. It was in beta at the time I installed it last summer, but it works just fine. The drive is a large one used for backups and storing pictures and media, and it gets fairly heavy use (the backups run every day), so if a problem were going to occur, I think it would have happened already. My point is that if it can work in this version of Unix, there might be ports of it to the Mac OS X version of Unix. -- David W.
