Well, I on a pure Windows box, you wouldn't have needed to re-install just to upgrade from FAT32 to NTFS -- it can be run on a live Windows installation. As to updates, your complaint is why I don't use Windows Update except as a tool for indicating what I need. I then follow the informational links and download the installers for each of the updates I need and keep them. After fully patching a brand-new system, I also create an image so that I can restore to that clean state if needed. -- David W.
