Oh! Sorry you are having this difficulty.

Chuck, that's not the issue here, however -- I mean, opening old files with new versions. The problem is in the Finale 2003 file itself, because I opened it with Finale 2003 and got into the same weird stuff.

Dear Harold,

This kind of thing has happened to me when I've opened old files in newer versions of Finale. It's not that unusual. The full version of TGTools has things I wouldn't want to be without. I always use Modify/Transfer to move the layout of one part to another in similarly laid out linked parts (just for one example).

I agree with you. I copied the music and pasted into a new file. I found out the other two 2003 files in the same folder as this one, have the same problem!!! And some other weird stuff happened. I couldn't delete a couple of notes entered accidentaly in speedy entry. The notes appeared only when leaving the measure being edited. When I clicked the measure (speedy entry) to delete them, they disappeared. They didn't show in any of the four layers. And since I could't delete the notes, I tried to clear the measure. The notes remained, even though everything else vanished. Then I tried deleting the measure. No use... Really strange. I will not use ths file, but I might get TGTools just to see it fixed anyway.
Thank you.

Hi Harold,

I downloaded the file you posted and there is definitely something screwy about it.

You can fix the problem with the FULL version of TGTools (which includes the Staff List Manager) -- i.e., not the TGTools Lite that comes with Finale -- but it might be best to copy the music into a new file, because this one seems like it's become corrupted.

The file has never been optimized because it is a single instrument, one-staff part. But yes, I did removed it anyway.
Thanks. Harold.

Did you try REMOVING optimization? That's what it sounds like the problem is to me.

Thanks for answering. I did that. Doesn't help. This is what is happening:

I have a single staff part written in FinMac 2003. The instrument is the double bass. I open it, in page view, whether with Finale 2003 or 2008, doesn't matter, and I see the bass staff with all the music.
Still in page view, I add a new staff.
The new staff does not show (still in page view). Only the original bass staff shows, as if I had not added a new staff. I switch to scroll view and I can see both staves now. The bass and the newly created one.
Swith back to page view - I see only the bass staff.
Back to scroll view, I delete the bass staff - now I see only the new staff in scroll view. The bass staff is gone, as expected.
Back to Page view - I see a blank page!

The file is here if anyone wants to check:

http://hmauro.com/finale

It's the only file in the directory. Try adding a new staff to it.
Thank you.

Harold

Sorry that I haven't read the whole thread, so this may be way off base, but my first thought was to Optimize. That sometimes fixes a multitude of previous changes.

There is one system per page, but no music!!!

Check the margins for one of the systems. Maybe one of the margin settings got set to something so large (or small) that the music is actually there, just displaying somewhere completely off the page.

I reset the system margins and now I have several systems per page, which shouldn't be, since there are six staves per system. Still no music, just the dotted lines and small boxes. Here are the measurements for all systems, exept the top margin of system one, in inches:

Top: 0,37153; left: 0,04861; right: 0,04861; bottom: 0,78125
Distance between systems: 0.3

Thank you.
