I have been in contact with the edition by mail and phone, and the order has
been placed. The free shipping also goes for Denmark, which is kind of unusual
in web dealings across borders.

However I have run into a problem, which preferably should be solved soon, as
my current project is about Christmas music to be performed this year.

It is a hymn with verses 1, 2, and 4 set by me, and the 3rd verse using a
setting from an old hymnal.

The setting varies between 4- and 5-part-voicings.

My problem is with the 4-part notation for organ, which is written on 3 staves,
which in turn fits the 5-part passages well.

For the sake of registration I write the soprano line on the top staff and the
bass line on the bottom staff. Trivial. Less trivial are the alto and tenor
lines written in layers 1 and 2 on the middle staff. If in treble clef, they
sit very low on the staff, down to C below middle C. I so far use bass clef,
but the alto goes to A above middle C. And with these two parts being quite
independent rhythmically, I don’t like the visual result.

Visually I could improve the writing by using alto clef, tenor clef, or treble
clef octave down, but that would create reading problems or confusion. The same
would go for frequent shifts between treble and bass clefs.

What to do?

Klaus
