This is really weird! I have NEVER had the numeric keypad stop working on me before, but it just started behaving just as you said, refusing to recognise key presses! A reboot of the computer solved it, but man, I was weirded out for a minute there! Ghosts, or something, I guess.
Make sure you have all the most recent drivers installed and go through the MIDI setup from zero, I would say.
