How long did you wait? The sourceforge server has its moments where it
is not very responsive.

You are too polite. A simple 'kill' is just a suggestion, not an order.
You should say

  sudo kill -KILL 301 

or, what is the same thing 

  sudo kill -9 301

See "man kill". This will stop 99.9% of all processes. In the rare case
of a zombie process that is really unkillable (marked "Z" in the STAT
column of the ps output), a reboot might be in order.
