Hi,

I'm not quite sure of what I'm writing, so please correct me if I'm
wrong...
I had exactly the same problem as Gavin when I first tried to install
system-tetex.
I'm using Gerben Wierda's tetex distribution so I wanted to install
system-tetex with fink and got the same error.
The problem with version 20010808-7 seems to be that the installation
requires ranlib which in turn is installed with the developers tools. In
my case I meant to install the dev tools in any case and after doing that
I could install system-tetex without any problems. Now the point is that
if the error Gavin is getting is due to the fact that he doesn't have the
dev tools then he won't be able to build and install the updated version of
system-tetex from cvs.
Gavin, if you are not short of disk space (you'll need about 200 MB) I
would consider installing the developer tools in any case. It would give
you access to many more packages.
Don't worry, you don't have to be able to use the tools, fink does it for
you!

Stefano
