I have been using Linux for several years, before I recently got myself a nice PowerBook. So I heard of Fink and I wanted to use to install Gimp and similar software I like to use. Before I installed Fink i already installed Apple's X11, which was running fine.
Now as I tried installing Gimp, Fink required me to make a choice, which X I wanted to use. However, i didn't have the system-Xfree86 option so I went wich Xfree86-base-threaded. This however, causes a conflict with the existing X11 install. Fink aborted. And since, some pkgs have already been installed my Apple X11 installation refuses to start up. So here are my questions: 1. Which X server should I run with? I would prefer to use Apple's X11 as I imagine that it is better integrated into the OS X. Am I wrong? 2. If I decide to keep Apple's X11, how can I make Fink see the X11 installation I already have? And what do I need to do to reanimate the X11 install? 3. If I decide to go with XFree86, what is the cleanest way to remove Apple's X11? I can't seem to find a setup to uninstall software. I am sorry if some of these questions sound naive, but I am still an OS X newbie and I would very much appreciate any help. Thanks Frank __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
