[Fink-beginners] xemacs

I'll repost this, since I still haven't solved it or gotten a useful 
answer.  Maybe in the meantime someone else has worked it out?

Having installed xemacs, when I start it I get a splash screen, but 
it then freezes up with error messages like:

xemacs: X Error of failed request:  BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
   Major opcode of failed request:  55 (X_CreateGC)
   Serial number of failed request:  1953
   Current serial number in output stream:  1978
is this familiar to anyone?
