I'll repost this, since I still haven't solved it or gotten a useful answer. Maybe in the meantime someone else has worked it out?
Having installed xemacs, when I start it I get a splash screen, but it then freezes up with error messages like:
xemacs: X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 55 (X_CreateGC) Serial number of failed request: 1953 Current serial number in output stream: 1978
is this familiar to anyone?
As I answered last time when you brought this up, it is familiar insofar as there used to be another guy who had this, you'll find his name in the archives, from Cambridge, England, IIRC. The problem never got solved.
The only remotely similar error I got when some of the relevant libraries, libxaw3d i think, where compiled under a different version of X11 than the one xemacs was built under. There was also a report (not related to xemacs) where this might have come from X11 run in 256 colors.
Otherwise, the only thing that is clear is that there must be something peculiar with your system that causes this error, because xemacs works for others (I use it all the time). Look at any settings for number of colors, screen resolution, monitor etc. Triple-check your X11 installation and in case you uupdated from one version of X11 to another, rebuild anything that is related to X11.
