I guess this is the right diagnosis. Here is how I came into the problem :
1) A mac machine was given to me, with Mac OS X 10.4.xxx; 2) I upgraded to
10.5.0, withtout upgrading to 10.5.5; 3) I installed fink. After upgrading
to Mac OS X 10.5.5, konsole was running fine.
